Frequently asked questions.
What can I expect in my first session?
Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and for you to share what’s been happening for you. We’ll talk about your hopes, challenges, and what you’d like to get out of therapy. I’ll also explain how I work and answer any questions you have, so we can make sure the fit feels right before moving forward.
When and how regular will my sessions be?
Session frequency depends on your needs and goals. Some clients choose weekly sessions to build momentum, while others prefer fortnightly or monthly appointments. We’ll decide together on a schedule that supports you best.
What is your cancellation policy?
I require at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. This allows me to offer the spot to another client. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice may incur the full session fee.
Are sessions private and confidential?
Yes. Everything we talk about is confidential, and your privacy is protected. The only exceptions to this are if there is a legal obligation to share information, such as when there is a risk of harm to yourself or others.
Is counselling covered by Medicare?
Counselling is not covered by Medicare. This means you don’t need a GP referral or mental health care plan, and there is no limit to the number of sessions you can have.
Do I need a referral or a mental health care plan?
No. You can book directly online without a referral.
What is the difference between a psychologist and a counsellor/psychotherapist?
Psychologists and counsellors are both trained to support mental health and wellbeing, but the approach is different. As a psychotherapist, my work focuses on understanding patterns, emotional responses, and relationships. I use a collaborative, relational approach rather than a diagnostic one. I don’t provide formal mental health diagnoses, but if you need a higher level of support or assessment, I can connect you with the right services.
Do you work with expectant and new parents?
Yes. I specialise in perinatal mental health, supporting individuals and couples through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and early parenting. This includes navigating identity shifts, relationship changes, and the emotional impact of becoming a parent.
Do you offer couples therapy?
Yes. I work with couples at all stages, from preparing for parenthood to navigating long-term relationship challenges. I draw on the Gottman Method, Internal Family Systems, and somatic therapy to help you improve communication, strengthen connection, and manage conflict more effectively.
